Coachella 2018

Coachella, a.k.a. Beychella, was absolutely amazing! This was my boyfriend’s and I first time attending, and we had the best time. Although we didn’t have the chance to go during Weekend 1 to experience initial performances, Weekend 2 was mind-blowing. As many know, Coachella is not just about the music and art, it’s also about the fashion that attendees wear.

Before I get into the main pieces for my outfits, I had four essential pieces that saved me during my time at Coachella – my hat, sunglasses, bandana, and sneakers. I currently have box braids, so it was difficult to find a hat that could fit over my braids. Fortunately, the Corduroy Fisherman Hat by Urban Outfitter was able to provide me protection from the sun, and it paired great with their Half-Frame Sunglasses. The bandana I used saved my lungs and sinuses from the dirt that was floating in the air (although you may not be able to see it during the day, you can definitely see the dirt at night when flashing a light out in the open). Since I am petite, platform sneakers were a must. The Old Skool Platform sneakers from Vans were great in giving me an extra inch.

I’d admit, I did a ton of last-minute shopping for Weekend 2. However, during the process, I found great pieces that embodied the essence of Coachella and pieces that can be worn outside of the festival. For Day 1, my top was a Faux Suede Embroidered Fringe Top from Forever 21 and my bottoms were the Wrangler Pinup Denim Short from Wrangler’s collaboration with Urban Outfitters. My look for Day 2 included the Skyler Tank from Brandy Melville and the Candle Blue Denim Mom Shorts from PacSun. During Day 3, I wore the black combo Break Free Printed Top from Free People and the Authentic Mom Shorts from Topshop.

As for the art, every sculpture was breathtaking with their magnitude, and exhibitions – like The Antarctic powered by HP technologies – gave a stunning visual and auditory presentation. The music was a getaway as you were immersed into the artists’ creations. Each artist I saw gave off their own unique vibes that made you want to party with them. Artists who had bigger productions, such as the Headliners, had grand setups for their stage that invited you to their world.

Whether it’s Coachella or another music festival, everyone should have the chance to experience the celebratory and sincerity of music and art that is shared among festivalgoers and performers.
